Lara Croft, while making the final preparations for an expedition to Égypt,
finds herself confronted with grief and the loss of the last bond tying her to her vanished family.
Sensing her deep distress, David — a ghost from the past connected to Winston — reaches out to help her through this ordeal. But he also carries one final message from Winston: an old travel journal that had remained hidden until now.
What begins for Lara is the promise of an inner journey, a battle to reclaim the happiness she has lost… and perhaps, at last, a path toward acceptance.

FEATURES
TOMB RAIDER OLD is a mod built on the Tomb Raider IV engine. Faithful to the lore of the first four games, it pays tribute to Core Design’s cult saga while introducing an original concept through its 2.5D side-scroller approach.
What’s the story? TOMB RAIDER OLD centers its narrative around Winston’s past and the theme of grief. The adventure begins shortly before the events of Tomb Raider IV. Winston, the Croft family’s famous butler, has just passed away. Lara is contacted by David, a close family friend, who wishes to share Winston’s very last wish with her.
Old-school spirit! In TOMB RAIDER OLD, you can only save at the beginning of each level. Checkpoints are your only ally to avoid respawning at the start. But be careful: every life counts. Find as many extra lives as possible to avoid a GAME OVER.
No save scumming! As a demanding platformer, TRO only allows a single save at the start of each of the game’s 8 levels. Be precise, stay agile, and take the time to analyze your surroundings.
We’re not savages! We still thought about casual players. At the start of the game, choose your difficulty level from three available modes:

Easy (40 starting lives to discover the adventure with grandma)

Normal (10 starting lives to experience the adventure with a balanced challenge)

Hard (3 starting lives to relive the adrenaline and tension of old-school games)
The spirit of the community! TRO makes use of the many incredible improvements created by the Tomb Raider modding community: new moves for Lara, new interactions with certain objects, controller support, FMV support, compatibility with modern systems, and much more!
2.5 D Side Scroller
Built on a modified version of the TR IV engine, with a retro-inspired approach designed to recapture the essence of the classic games.
Demanding and rewarding
Limited saves at the beginning of each level. A restricted number of lives. Every step forward must be earned.

To play TOMB RAIDER OLD, simply download the installer below.
IMPORTANT: TOMB RAIDER OLD requires administrator privileges to run properly.
If you wish to use a controller, install JoyToKey when prompted by the installer. It must also be run in administrator mode to work correctly with the game.
To access the game settings, open the TOMB RAIDER – SETUP file located in ../engine. We recommend launching the setup tool before starting TRO for the first time in order to adjust the game resolution to match your screen.

IMPORTANT
Unfortunately, and beyond our control, the Tomb4.exe executable and the TOMB RAIDER OLD.exe wrapper may be detected as false positives by your antivirus software. Please create an exception for these files.
What is the wrapper? The wrapper is an executable that allows TOMB RAIDER OLD to run in borderless windowed mode, without a visible mouse cursor, enabling proper FMV support.
For advanced users a .config file is available to tweak certain program settings in case of in-game issues. See the README.txt file for more information.
